Hey look, it’s me and my Strippers’ Holiday broads!
Black Mariah (Dallas, TX) with Freya West (Nashville, TN) & Lou Lou la Duchesse de Riere (Montreal) - burlesque dancers
“Three of us went for brunch on the last day of Stripper’s Holiday. If you don’t know what that is, it is a week long Dance intensive with Michelle L’Amour where we camp out in her house, and spend long hours at Studio L’Amour eating sleeping and dancing burlesque. By the end of the week, we have all gotten to know each other very well. On the final day, as dancers are being transported to airports, the three of us paid a visit to a local eatery for brunch. Afterwards we had planned to visit one of the museums. It was 3 PM and the museum closed at 5PM. We walked the length of Taylor street without spotting one cab. Staring at our phones, each cab app required about 15 minutes of profile input to simply hail a cab. We realized we would not have enough time to enjoy the museum, even if we got a cab, which was not happening. What to do with our remaining moments together? We could have drinks? Lou Lou piped up, “Or we could get matching tattoos”. Freya and I chuckled, then our chuckles turned to a pondering of hmmm, maybe that’s not such a crazy idea. We all liked tattoos, CLEARLY. I wasn’t all the way on board, but conveniently, the tattoo shop was 2 steps from where we thought about getting tattoos.
We walked in and looked around, what would we get? “DIAMONDS”. Oh, I don’t know, I thought. I’m not really a diamonds kind of girl. Freya pointed out that I AM the queen of rhinestoning ALL THE THINGS! Oh RIGHT! I am the Rhinestone Queen. Done. We all decided on diamonds/rhinestones and got a price. Ran down the street to get cash, and in an hour, we all had matching stones on our wrists and shoulder. Crazy? Maybe. But I love these girls. I love this week every year. we were close now…..tattoo close. I had the artist add color to the stone so that it looked like an AB swarovski. Why not? This is my sisterhood (and brotherhood). My rhinestone sits on the inside of my wrist, and looks like a lone piece of art, but not for long. This will become my burlesque bracelet. I will mark moments in my life with adding new tattoo charms to the wrist. Dice for Vegas for BHoF, then who knows? Burlesque……it’s a big sparkly, sister and brotherly, risky, dramatic club.
I love this club.”

On occasion, I write pretty well.
